With all the millions of websites on the internet today, there can only be a few that will show up on the first page of search engines at a time.  This is where search engine optimization comes in to play.  You can prepare your website to enhance its chances of being ranked in the top results of a search engine. SEO often evades a simple definition. This is because it permeates just about every area of web site design and development. From evaluating your source code at the most basic level, to optimizing your HTML tags, to choosing the right keywords, optimizing link text, gaining inbound links and a whole lot more, SEO concerns should be in mind with every step you take. 

The most basic and important factors when optimizing your website are :

1.       Using the right keyword is the foundation of successful SEO. Keywords are the words that web surfers enter in search engines to find web sites. It is important that your web site has good search engine rankings for popular keywords that are related to the theme of your web site.

2.       Increase the link popularity of your web site.  This is first and foremost in determining your PageRank, which is a huge factor in where your pages will display in search results for their relevant keywords.

3.       Content - Without fresh, relevant and useful content you will never see the rankings you’re looking for (unless you somehow get the best sites on the internet to link to you).

Additionally, keep in mind that if your site is brand new, you will not see good rankings for some time. Google does not crawl all new websites immediately, and there is also generally a period of several months before sites are fully crawled and indexed. So, if you’ve got a great site together and are displeased to see that you’re not ranking highly, settle down a bit. Keep building it up - Google will catch on. In the mean time, self-promote like crazy, gaining as many quality links to your site as you possibly can.
