does not mean you stop writing content for people as well. People are not machines - they do not choose the best articles to read simply based on the amount of information or the number of times a keyword comes up - people need to be entertained, they need information alongside amusement to be engaged and interested. Therefore it’s important to remember some of those you learned back in high school or college.

Be Clear

There’s no need to confuse your reader. Chances are they’re reading your article to learn something, and chances are they won’t be having a literary discussion about it when they’re finished. Make sure your sentences are simple and concise, your paragraphs don’t meander, and your adjectives don’t overpower your nouns. If your reader ends up with more questions than he or she had before reading your article, you have not given all the information you were supposed to, or you didn’t write it clearly.

Be Effective

Writing a good article is all about balance. Though your readers might not want an article about vacuum cleaners that reads like a James Joyce novel, they don’t want a bunch of grey, boring sludge, either. Include the occasional joke. Use a simile or two. A little creativity can go a long way in keeping someone’s attention. Just don’t overdo it.

Character

When you are writing an article for a business’ website, you are writing on behalf of a company trying to give off a certain personality, so keep up the character in your style. A consistent voice in a company’s content helps a reader remember not only the information received from the article, but the kind of personalities the company who supplied the article has. Help define your business with your writing.

It is not just enough to throw a bunch of facts into a word document. Make sure to connect with readers not only on an informative level, but on a personal level as well. Doing so helps readers trust you as a reliable source.
