Blogging is simply a modern day means of communication. Through the magic of the Internet, the blogger communicates by sharing, inspiring, and entertaining their readers. But, like much in life, all blogs are not created equally. Some take off and become wildly popular, while others go virtually unnoticed-ignored and rarely visited in their cyber homes. If your blog falls into the latter category, take heart: there are proven ways to improve your blog. Some are simple, some require a little more time and commitment, but the benefits of a high traffic, popular blog are well worth your efforts. Here are some tips to get you started:
Know your Audience
Before you can cater your writing style and tone to your audience, you must know who your audience is. Ask yourself: what kind of readers am I looking to attract? What are their backgrounds? What is most important to them, and what won’t they care about? Knowing your audience doesn’t just help you hone in the writing style you will use, it also helps you to focus on the content your readers want.
Use Images in Your Posts
All blog readers love images. They set the focus point of your article and help readers visualize the message you want to convey. The old saying is true - a picture can say a thousand words.
Provide Links to your Favorite Blog Posts
Linking to your favorite blog entries makes it easier for readers to see your best content. If a reader can’t easily find what they’re looking for on your site, chances are they won’t bother to stick around. By linking your best blog entries, you’re not only optimizing it for the search engines, you’re also creating a great place for new readers to get to know you. The more user- friendly your blog is the more traffic and benefits you will likely see.
Promote your blog
Promotion might seem like an afterthought in the makings of a successful blog but it is arguably the most important aspect of all. Promotion gives your blog exposure, visibility, and helps create a buzz. There are lots of ways to promote your blog. It’s wise to take advantage of as many as humanly possible.
One must-have promotion tool for your blog is an RSS feed. Don’t trust that readers will remember to come back; an RSS feed updates them when you post new entries and articles. RSS feeds don’t necessarily attract new readers, but they do help you to maintain loyal readers and commenters.
Another great way to promote your blog is to have friends in your network provide hyperlinks to your site. Hyperlinks not only expose more readers to your blog, it also improves your ranking on popular search engines like Google, which is a huge advantage.
Social Media Networking
Joining social media network sites such as Digg, Mixx, Reddit, and StumbleUpon, can be invaluable promotion tools. These sites allow people to vote on your blog, and in the social media network world the polite thing to do when someone votes on your blog entry is to vote on one of theirs as well. Therefore, the more media network sites you join and vote on, the more votes your own blog posts will likely see. Always remember to include links to the social media network sites you belong to at the bottom of all of your posts too.

your ideas for a blog are very interesting, i think that is very important to know the audience, but i think that we have to add the obvious: a good writing! we can see a lot of times articles that are heavily promoted, but they don’t say anything.
great article!
